The British Legend returns!

Holdsworth Pro Racing

The UCI Continental team has been having almost a forty-year break but now, the Yorkshire-based squad is back and returns to the world of professional cycling.

Holdsworth is one of the most famous and popular British cycling brand, its own former pro-group, the Holdsworth-Campagnolo Team was among the bests – on the same level as nowadays’ UCI World Tour - between 1969 and 1978 and achieved many great success and excellent results.

The team was rebuilt and reborn, they announced it last autumn, however, people in Yorkshire has been so excited in the past few years and prepared for this moment: in 2014 the city hosted the Grand Depart, the start of Tour de France, a year later Tour of Yorkshire was launched. The organizer of the event is the A.S.O., which is also responsible for organizing the Tour de France and several prestigious, world-wide famous international sport events.

In 2018, similar to Hungary’s Tour de Hongrie, the race in Yorkshire had UCI 2.1 classification and it was such a huge success. How big this success was? Yorkshire is going to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2019.

Going back to the region’s famous team: Dean Downing, former British Tour winner, is leading the team and they have Russel Downing among its riders, who has the most experience, in the early years of 2010’, as the member of Team Sky, during two years he was competing together with Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome. In 2005 he became British national champion, in 2009 he won the Tour of Ireland and The Tour de Wallonie in 2010. In 2011 he successfully finished the Giro d’Italia.

The other big name of Holdsworth Pro Racing is the German Bjorn Thurau, former rider of Bora-Argon18/Europcar/Wanty, who is trying to follow his family’s tradition, as Thurau’s father, Dietrich was also a real star, won five stages at Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, achieved victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and also was the overall winner of the Deutschland Tour.
