They return from Szeklerland!

Team Novák

The squad of the city Miercurea Ciuc in Tusnad was established in 2009, they took part in the Tour de Hongrie in 2016 for the 1st time and we could support them last year as well. In 2018 they changed their names and can be known as Team Novák. What about their riders? There are six cyclists from Szeklerland (Ede Novák mellett, Róbert Szilágyi, and four youngsters, Péter András-Pótsa, Lóránt Balázsi, Péter László and Szilárd Török), two Ukrainians and one from Moldova.

The Tusnád Team in Miercurea Ciuc (in Romanian, in Hungarian it’s Csíkszereda) was founded in 2009, as the initiative of the wonderful para athlete, Károly Eduard Novák. That year, three of Hungary’s great riders, the winner of the 2005 Tour de Hongrie, Tamás Lengyel, former member of the Lampre World Tour-team, Bálint Szeghalmi and Gergely Kiss also competed for the Romanian team.

Károly Eduard Novák para athlete was European champion in 2005, three times world champion (1 road title, two track golds – 2009, 2012, 2013) and became Paralympic champion in 2012. He naturalized the cycling sport in his home town, established a Continental team (which was the only one professional team in Romania during several years) and he could stand on the podium few times among the healthy athletes. The region’s biggest and most prestigious race also belongs to him, the Tour of Szeklerland, which started its „history” in 2007. In 2018 this competition will be held between 6-10 August. And one more thing: Ede Novák – who is the President of the Romanian Cycling Federation nowadays -, at his age of 42, is still competing and achieved bronze medal in the Romanian Time Trial National Championships and also took part in our race last year…

The very 1st victory of the team of Tusnad was reached by the French Aurélien Passeron, who won a stage of Tour of Szeklerland. The Tusnad also won Tour of Romania (in 2012, Matija Kvasina), CET Grand Prix of Miskolc (in 2012, Krisztián Lovassy) and Tour of Serbia (in 2013, Ivan Stevic), in the meantime, London’s Olympian, Hungary’s Krisztián Lovassy has achieved several great results.

They changed their names after ten years, we can find them now as Team Novák. However they preserve the traditions. The team also has most of its cyclists, the riders of Szeklerland stayed with them, Moldova’s Tanovitchii also stayed, two Ukrainians joined the squad mainly because of the races in the mountains and hills.  The first year was really successful as by Nicolae Tanovitchii they won the Tour of Szeklerland, with 4 stage victories, moreover, they performed amazingly in Hungary as well, when Andrii Brataschuk won the etape in Hajduszoboszlo.

The main goal for Team Novák this year is: to perform as great as they can on their home soil, at the Tour of Szeklerland and also at Tour the Hongrie.

Tour de Hongrie, with its 890 km will start on 11 June, the UCI 2.1 race will finish on 16 June. 140 riders from 20 teams during 6 days are going to compete in Hungary.
