Top team from Tour de France!

Cofidis is among the participants

One of the most famous and popular teams of professional cycling, French Cofidis is going to take part in Tour de Hongrie in 2019.

Cofidis is a legendary team in cycling, its professional squad was established in 1997 and since then they have reached exceptional results. There is a man, a world-wide well-known sport leader and manager, Cyrille Guimard who has worked a lot to make Cofidis so great. He has been the manager of Bernard Hinault, Greg LeMond or Laurent Fignon – such huge names! Then in the ’80s Guimard led the French top team,Renault-Elf-Gitane. Since 1997 Cofidis has been a steady, staunch sponsor of the French squad, which in the past two decades has been operating without a break – it is a rare example in the world of cycling nowadays.

During the years, several world-famous, excellent cyclists have worn the jersey of Cofidis, we can mention world-class athletes, for example Maurizio Fondriest (Italian, world champion, winner of Milan-San Remo), Bobby Julich (American, Olympic Games silver medalist, Paris-Nice winner, third-placed at Tour de France), David Millar (British,two-times world championships silver medalist, ten-times Grand Tour stage winner), David Plaza (Spanish,, Deutschland Tour winner), Tony Rominger (Swiss, winner of the Vuelta a Espana three times, won the Giro d’Italia, eighteen-times Grand Tour stage winner), Frank Vandenbroucke (Belgian, won the Paris-Nice), Cedric Vasseur (French, two-times stage winner of Tour the France), Stuart O’Grady (Australian, won the Paris-Roubaix and two stages of Tour de France), Sylvain Chavanel (French, three-times Tour de France stage winner), David Moncoutie (French, six-times Grand Tour stage winner), Rik Verbrugghe (Belgian, four-times Grand Tour stage winner) or Samuel Dumoulin (French, won stage at Tour de France). Moreover, for two years the Olympic Games, world championships and Tour de France winner, Britain’s legend, Bradley Wiggins has been the member of the team. Then, we can mention Lance Armstrong as well, that time the American star has been world champions and two-times stage winner of Tour de Hongrie. Such a brilliant list, isn’t it?!

The French team had 21 professional victories in 2018, probably the most prestigious one was the 1st place of France’s Nacer Bouhanni at stage 6 of Vuelta a Espana. Among the team members of Cofidis this year there are sixteen French, four Belgian, three Spanish and one-one Colombian, German, Danish and Eritrean cyclists. One of the bests of the team is the 28-year-old Nacer Bouhanni who has already won 3-3 stages at Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana and so far reached 65 professional victories.

France’s Julien Simon is also a big name, he has had nine victories, also we cannot forget Jesus Herrada who is double national champion in Spain and last year he was able to wear the red jersey during two stages at the Vuelta. Cofidis always attends the big tours and races, this year they will compete at Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana for sure. What also certain is, that this team is going to be the strongest one in the history of Tour de Hongrie so far…

This year’s Tour de Hongrie will be held between 11-16 June 2019 and it got 2.1 UCI classification. The official route and cities are going to be launched soon.
