They attended the race this year
„It is our pleasure to announce our first World Team, as U.S. Trek-Segafredo is returning to Hungary next spring” – said Károly Eisenkrammer, Main Organiser of Tour de Hongrie.
„We have received loads of great, positive feedbacks after this year’s race, teams were absolutely satisfied with the organization, so as the representatives of UCI. However, in my opinion, the real confirmation will be the team entries – that’s why it is so important for us that one of the most successful and greatest squad is among our very first confirmed teams” – he added.
Trek-Segafredo had brilliant moments during the competetion in 2020, their Junior World Champion, Quinn Simmons was fighting for the overall title until the last kilometres, where he was beaten by CCC Team’s Hungarian talent, Attila Valter.
They were also successful during sprints: in Hajdúszoboszló Italy’s Matteo Moschetti came 2nd, Latvia’s Emils Liepins 8th, then in Nyregyháza Moschetti was 4th, Liepins 10th – finally, in Kazincbarcika the Latvian got the 2nd place. This means, Trek’s stars were very close to victories. Next year they are returning to win the trophies.
„We have received their enrolment form signed by team manager, Luca Guercilena” – said László Szilasi, Race Director. Leopard Trek was founded by Luxembourg’s stars, the Schleck-brothers, Andy and Frank Schleck in 2011, it was registered in Luxembourg until 2014, since then it has been an American team.
During recent years, Trek-Segafredo has had several stars, for example: 2-times Olympic champion, 4-times World Champion, Swiss Fabian Cancellara, Paris-Roubaix winner, Australia’s Stuart O’Grady, 2-times Deutschland Tour winner, Germany’s Jens Voigt, 2-times Tour de France silver medalist, German Andreas Klöden, Giro d’Italia bronze medalist, U23 World Champon, Ukraine’s Jaroslav Popovic or the 5-times Tour de France top 10 rider, Spain’s Haimar Zubeldia. Moreover, in 2017, one of the most successful riders of cycling, the 7-times Grand Tour winner world star, Spanish Alberto Contador retired as the cyclist of Trek-Segafredo.
In 2021 Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali will be the biggest star of Trek-Segafredo, the 36-year-old hero won the Giro d’Italia twice (2013, 2016), the Tour de France once (2014) and also once the Vuelta a Espana (2010). For Nibali year by year the most important event is the Giro d’talia, so in May probably we will not be able to welcome him in Hungary. The other star of the team is from Denmark, Mads Pedersen, who has achieved his greatest result so far in 2019 in Yorkshire when he became World Champion.
We can find riders in the team who already won titles in Hungary: Italy’s Matteo Moschetti as the rider of Polartec-Kometa was stage-winner in 2018, Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier from Eritrea (Dimension Data for Qhubeka) won the mountains classification and the red jersey in 2016.
Next year’s Tour de Hongrie will take place between 12-16 May 2021.
