UCI appointed Croatian commissaire
The International Cycling Federation (UCI) has recently informed the organisers of Tour de Hongrie that they had delegated Bruno Valcic from Croatia to the race, as President of Jury. Bruno Valcic is a really well-known commissaire, so far he has worked at the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a Espana and he is also attending the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
The experienced, 55-year-old commissaire was born into a cycling-family, in the city of Pula, which is very famous among Hungarian tourists. His father and uncle were cyclists, Bruno Valcic has followed their footsteps, he became Croatian junior time trial champion.
As they say, he was always connected to cycling, and it remained till today. He became regional commissaire in 1987, national commissaire in 1992, and UCI international commissaire in 1997. So, he passed all important categories in just few years.
He has huge routine as he has already worked at all the important road races, we can mention the three Grand Tours, nine world championships or several classic one-day events. As he says in cycling events the most important thing is safety, security, he pays huge attention on this.
„As I was never designated for Tour de Hongrie, I was very happy when received this designation” – said Bruno Valcic, father of two adult children. - I heard lots of good things about organisation of this race, and I am happy to work together with this team. Last yeaar I was in Hungary for the junior Visegrad race, I enjoyed that a lot. I have never been to Hungary as a tourist, maybe this race will be an opportunity to visit the beauties of the country.”
The Croatian commissaire told us, he had heard about the ambitions of the organisers, to become a ProSeries race. He hopes he will be able to help this aim „with a positive race report, after a successful event”.
„In cycling events in general, the most important thing is safety, security. If this is on high level, all other things are easier to manage. So, I will mostly pay attention on this in May during Hungary’s biggest cycling race” – said Bruno Valcic when we asked about the most important aspects of a competition.
The 42nd Tour de Hongrie will take place between 12-16 May 2021.
